How VCI Works Unlike conventional rust preventives that are water-displacing (wax paper), water-absorbing (clay or silica), dehumidification, and barrier products (LDPE/HDPE) try to alter an ever-changing environment surrounding the metal, VCI technology passivates the metal's surface as well as deactivates the humidity surrounding the metal components.
